Pigs at the Club

Acel Suriaga

In Pigs at the Club, I push myself out of my comfort zone to explore a hypothetical career as an exotic dancer. The major themes in this piece are the loss of innocence, the need for attention, confrontation, money, vulnerability, and empowerment. Personally, I don't plan on ever pursuing this profession, but I was always curious about how it would feel to be in that person's shoes. My inspirations for the piece were the cursed pigs from the movie Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki, Animal Farm by George Orwell, and the silhouette art of Kara Walker.
