The Other

Stephanie Taffe ‘25

Growing up in a mostly white neighborhood and school, I quickly learned that I was not a part of the beauty standard. Compared to the straight hair, thin lips, and light skin of most girls, I was the opposite, with tan skin, big lips, and curly hair, in two or three twists. This piece is a dramatic representation of my ideal of beauty as a child. Now, when I look back at my childhood photos, I see how adorable I was, and I love the fact that I am a testament to my father’s and my mother's features.
